I believe, this is such an important issue and  awareness for this should be constant, I went pretty deep for this piece, I hope I brought this home ??

One For The Road?

Looking in a mirror, all ready to go, I see a cut face and a bleeding nose,
No expressing, I've done something wrong, as I look like a ghost,
Behind my shoulder there's a child, broken limbs, lifeless on the floor,
Car keys in my pocket, I'm feeling lucky though, "go on I'll have one more".

A one for the road?
Leave your keys at home!
To ruin so many lives,
A drink, is never worthwhile! 

Kids playing in the street, laughing and joking, which is such a rare scene, 
A car speeding, clips the curb, everyone is in panic, he fell asleep at the wheel,
Disaster had struck, a mother drowning in her own screams, crying for help,
Somebody help! 
Somebody help!
My god! 
My son has been knocked down! 

The driver unconscious, arms slumped, head sunken into the bloodied airbag,
People crying all around, ambulance left with son and mother in the back,
Paramedics doing all that they can, tubes everywhere, desperation engulfed the mother,
Entering the hospital, screams of please save my son, he needs to be with his big brother!

To ruin so many lives,
A drink, is never worthwhile! 

With lips from an angel, his mother kissed upon his forehead,
His soul, gone to heaven, now, just a poor dead boy in a hospital bed, 
With a moment she couldn't comprehend, tears just flowed, as the beep had stopped,
Hunched over his body, not wanting to leave go, with words, time of death, on the wall clock.

Behind bars, a sentence for only 8 years, it should be life, and life should mean life,
You ended a human being, that person doesn't get a second chance, is this right?
It wasn't just one life you ended or changed, it was a fathers, mothers and a brothers,
Like the butterfly effect, nothing was the same again, the passing memory was, little white feathers.

The mother,
She lives within her sons dreams,
The brother,
Lives his days haunted by her screams,
The father,
Keeping it together but broken at the seams.

There's always a reason to live,
There's always a reason to love,
Memories, keep our hearts beating,
Reasons are everywhere!
So as you stand there at the bar, looking into the mirrored wall, 
Remember in that moment, your whole life can be torn apart! 
You should never drink and drive,
It will only end too many lives!
