Poem -

one month until goodbye

saying goodbye to an unrequited love as it is time for them to go

One month,
One month until our friendship ends,
One month until we become strangers again,
One month feels too soon to be true,
Will I ever get to tell you it's always been you?

Every look, every stare,
Your long retriever hair,
Our laughs, our jokes, our shared way to cope,
Every time I was high and walked to school,
Yeah, I was stoned but you looked like the fool.

Your greasy hair, your father's clothes,
The freckles that went just past your nose,
How we made eye contact from across the class,
You looked like you were gonna be sick.

You seem to not know, yet I feel like you do,
You know all my feelings, especially for you,
So with your graduation coming, I'll always remember,
To pray for you, maybe send you a letter.

I've typed on purpose and randomly stopped,
In hopes that maybe I'll get caught,
I hope that you noticed, I hope you care,
I hope our eyes linger, so much it's a stare.

I don't know why I freak out when I'm not sending this letter,
Maybe pretending you'll read it will make me feel better,
When that song comes on, tears leave my eyes,
'Cause in one month you'll be gone, and I'm not ready to say goodbye.
