Our common pheasant

I take for granted the common pheasant
Who struts outside my house
He is a frequent caller,Β
A game bird just like the grouse
The cock is so very colourful
He always catches my eye
As he wattles on a courtship mission
Searching for a hen pheasant passerby
Such a spectacular array of golden hues
From his head through to his tail
Not like the plainer dowdy colours
Of his partner the female
He is so highly decorated
So pleasing to the eye
Although like a bird with wings
He does very rarely fly
Iβve only observed flight once or twice
A cock was startled by a car
It burst into the sky like a flush
& landed in seconds not too far
Personally I see him as an Autumn birdΒ
He blends in so well with that season
The golden shades of the falling leaves is my very reason
His diet consists of insects & seeds
Is a popular visitor of farms & Fields
This is the habitat where he feeds
So he solely depends on the farmers yield
Our countryside is so beautiful
I feel the common pheasant is an asset
It gives me such delightful pleasure
Observing this brown cream/buff white brunette
