Our nation needs

Our nation needs

Conceived from liberty's concepts,
from the blood of those before,
defiance of feudalism,
defiance of empire,
defiance of tyranny,
still, our nation needs.
Freedom bought in abstract
never to be in embraced,
lines of division
replaced by it's scars
dawns a fragile peace,
still, our nation needs.
Leaders speak of virtue,
a land that's fair for all,
but the insidious opportune,
papal, political,greed
devour it's mortal virtue,
still, our nation needs.
Charlatans speak of change,
the febrile rabble listen,
homeless,hungry unwanted,
waiting in the queue
a new travesty awaits,
still, our nation needs.

*In memory of the centenary of the formation meeting of the first Irish Parliament, Dail Eireann, this week in 1919.
