Poem -

Our Sea.

Our Sea.

Don't pretend that I'm your anchor

When it's you that stopped the tide.

Don't ache for me as the sun sets

Then banish me at dawn.

I've mourned you with bitter tears

And waited for you to try.

I've lost myself in finding you and

Dragging us back to land.

I gave my breath to fill your lungs

With love and hope and wonder.

My messages swept by seaΒ

To lands you'll never find.

Burning vessels of I and we and us

Only extinguished by your waves.

If we flow like water then

I lost you in the tide.

If we die today I know

I was the shadow on your shore.Β

If we survive another second I know

We're far and lost at sea.

Using the varied imagery and moods of the sea as a metaphor for a troubled (and ultimately broken) relationship is a great idea which raises this poem well above the commonplace.

Insightful, inspired and intriguing.
