Out Of My League

Out Of My League

Are all of you Yanks familiar with that expression?
Quite simply, it means: 'something not as good as you,'
well now, that conjures up a whole potpourri doesn't it?
The secret is to have compassion where that may be true.

We know the other words: condescending, patronising,
inexcusable really - who the hell do we think we are?
we can think of a few expletives but won't use those,
the insults we all have to grin and bare, stand and stare.

Someone said that we have a duty to impart knowledge,
that must be optional - no one's going to force us to do that;
then the great crime - pretending to know when we don't,
be humble, admit, you may be surprised the friends you gain.

After all these years, my lover admitted something she didn't know,
lighten up, be flexible, because we learn something every day.
