Pain unleashed....

Beneath the unyielding sun,
where shadows grow colder,
Time accelerates,
an inexorable current dragging me older.
Cancer gnaws at my essence,
since I was but a child,
And through this torment,
my spirit remains undefiled.

Why did fate choose me,
what sin did I commit?
The secrets of my past,
locked tightly within.
I pry at the jar,
memories refuse to be clear,
A fractured life’s ledger,
tallying each year.

The agony is relentless,
like the bite of winter’s cold,
Whispering winds wrapping round,
no sanctuary to hold.
Rivers once flowing,
now frozen in place,
Cast into hellfire,
my roots erased.

As a single father of three,
my strength never wanes,
My soul is tethered to them,
in love's enduring chains.
Four stepchildren and a future wife,
my ultimate pride,
In their presence,
I push the anguish aside.

For their smiles are the balm to the pain I bear,
A sanctuary from despair,
their laughter in the air.
Were it not for these eight souls,
steadfast and true,
I'd be lost to the shadows,
an ephemeral view.

Why must I endure this relentless strife?
Why has destiny condemned my life?
A burden on my back,
sinking deeper still,
A relentless spiral,
into depression’s chilling thrill.

But within this darkness,
their love is my guide,
Through their unwavering light,
my soul finds stride.
In the midst of chaos,
I stand,
defiantly bold,
My family,
my fortress,
my story untold.

Despite the pain,
I soldier on,
Their strength,
my beacon at dawn.
Though I despise the cards I've been dealt,
Their love and support are always felt.

In this battle,
I find my way,
Through the darkest night,
into day.
With their love,
I fight,
I rise,
Their smiles,
my solace,
my ultimate prize.
