paper bills

paper bills

Doors locked tight, windows sealed shut
Don't let the neighbors hear us fight
be sure our children are sound asleep
as we sit downstairs and weep, crying over debt

Paper bills lay upon the floor
Final notice taped to our door
one more bottle of wine maybe a few pills
to shroud our pain and misery
over those unpaid bills

I cannot believe it has come to thisĀ
to tell our children when they awake
No home, no bed, no warmth
For tomorrow the government will come to take

This is painful and unforgiving

Sweet dreams dear children for you will not awake
I hope you can forgive us for our sake

As the guards come knocking tomorrow
they will find our un-beating hearts lying still
Forever more

One more family fallen to the machine
Those paper bills burnt and torn upon the floor
