People Change

Things can happen to make a person change.
To make their big smile fade.
It's broken and it needs first-aid.
They were betrayed.
Their feelings are numb and they're not afraid.
Being hurt is something no one can evade.
We just hope that happiness comes back and makes us feel good again.
And we want it to stay.
But see Depression creeps in when we accidently stray.
It likes to visit for more than a day.
When it comes it muffles our screams for help and we aren't ok.
It came into our mind unannounced, invade.
Now we're a walking grenade.
We don't know when we'll blow up or if the next day we'll even awake.
We yearn for that smile everyday.
You'd be amazed.
We don't want to be sad all the time.
Just so we don't inconvenience you we put a smile for display.
It's just a mask we have to maintain.
Because sometimes it tries to crack or break.
