Peregrine falcon

The wind beneath my wings
Lifts me up high
Higher than
The naked eye
There I hover
 flapping my wings
Listening to the chorus
that blows in the wind
Catching air
with small wings
spread wide
Catching drifts
To rise up high
Into the deep blue
Endless  skyÂ
Then fall and glide
Beating wings
hold me in place
I sit silently
Wind in my face
Preparing myself
to fill my face
Looking down on
 a world so small
Wings pinned back
I start to fall
Like a brick
being knocked of a wall
Prey in sight now
Eyes on a swivel
Talons out
 locked into place
Can’t wait to see
the look on my preys faceÂ
There it is
a speck down below
a white collared pigeon
flying happy and free
just wait till he gets a load of me
I bet he wishes he could see
As well as me
But I have binocular vision
He’s just a pigeon
Not even in my division
Falling fast now
 watch me go
Catching the wind now
Getting a free tow
Speeds of 120 mph
I’m like a missile
 just been fired
got  one shot
before my wings tire
before my breath perspires
There it is
talons extended
locked into place
quick kill intended
catch my prey on the wing Â
with so much force
heavier than I first thought
almost knocks me of course
but still, he’s caught
My talons dig deep into its flesh
past the feathers and membrane
mesh
blood oozes out
back to my nest
my chicks scream and shout
“come on dad, rip some flesh
divvy it out”
they say chirping while dancing about
The balance of nature can be cruel
But it is what it is
and they’re the rules
I didn’t choose to be this way
I was born into this  carnivorous life
So I make do with what I take from the land
And the sky
that i see from above
with my binocular eyes
