Perfection

Perfection

Screw the cape, he didn’t need it.

Roaring modesty earthed us all with rationality and perspective.

The stars were out of reach… But we weren’t.

His purpose was his priority, certainly not his selfless self.

Perfection.

Teenagers will be teenagers. They lie, fight, shout and hate.Β

Words can be acidic and unjust, especially after such sacrifice…

Blind encouragement for fleeting ambition, without exception.

Perfection.Β

But adults will be adults, with appreciation coming a little too late.Β

A weekly visit knocks spots off a winning lottery ticket.Β

Not a disappointment. Not a single complaint. Nothing other than perfection.

But…

Gazing into my own child’s eyes triggered the epiphany.Β

The sacrifice and stars’ irrelevance hit me between the eyes with true contentment.Β

I finally understand.

If only you were around to hear me say those words.Β

I understand.Β

You gave your life, and I'm forever grateful you laid the foundation for perfection.
