PIERCING THROUGH THE FOG

The most profound words
Ever uttered about my life
Wilford Barker is dead
Words that forced
The known and unknown
To pause and take note
To ask questions about the deceased
I am now the center of attention
The headline of conversation
The topic introduced
If for a moment
But I can hear you, I can see you
My spirit remains in your midst
Having seven days to be prepared
For my eternal journey and return
To the One that had loaned me life
I paid close attention to my audience
As family and friends uttered my name
It was shocking and surprising to hear
Words of kindness, appreciation, and love
Even from my known enemies in life
Why didn't you touched my ear
With the grace of your tongue
In my moment of discouragement
Your hands that are now holding bouquet of flowers
Has never embraced my broken soul
The last of questions I've asked myself
In many final moments of transmission
From mortal to immortality
While my fading eyes
Pierces through the fog.
Wilford Barker.
