Pioneers

Pioneers

We trudge across the stark and unforgiving land,
Our wagon breaks; adding to; the list of nothing planned!
We sing at night; teaching the blue cold to drift away,
Children finding scorpions around that want to play!

From one horizon to the next, seem to never end,
The downhill sloping side; always being our friend!
Following the river, but now we have to cross,
Avoiding deep waters; and another drowning loss!

The water so cold! our legs and feet we cannot feel!
Our lips so chapped; the brittle skin begins to peel!
Snow stings our eyes, we're blinded by the white!
Blizzard halts our travel; as the wind begins to bite!

We bury our loved ones in a very shallow grave,
We leave behind our pride, nothing left to save.

Jim "The Lad" ....

Thank you Marion! It is taken from true historical accounts that I tried to do justice for their tragic journey!

That was an epic journey, full of trials and tribulations. So much imagery I could almost feel the cold air on my skin as I read on.

The water so cold! our legs and feet we cannot feel!
Our lips so chapped; the brittle skin begins to peel!
Snow stings our eyes, we're blinded by the white!
Blizzard halts our travel; as the wind begins to bite!

Tragic, yet brilliantly penned 🌻✨👏

It is hard to take credit for a true story simply put to rhyme, but thank you!

Rhyming anything can be a challenge, but restricting yourself to a true story or story already told, brings further challenges. So kudos you did amazing. Your writing produced the perfect imagery and that’s so important 👏✨

What a thought provoking piece. Cleverly done Jim, love the lines
Following the river, but now we have to cross,
Avoiding deep waters; and another drowning loss!.
so much in this I loved. Re read again and again. I have so much to catch up, life has been kind of crazy but I'm still writing everyday, can't stop the music but have missed so much of everyone else's amazing shares!  Love and light ❤☀

What a tribute Jim! I love how your structure your work as always but the message in this one was awsome! I couldn't imagine the struggles of the first settlers in any country... I don't think I could live without the cosmos yet alone wifi.... Enjoyed Jim! As always, smiles. Your friend Max
