Please don't forget

Please don't forget

Please don't forget the sound of my name,
As it leaves the tips of your lips for the last time,
Please don't see me shrink away in your rear mirror,
And forget to savour one glance back.
Please save only the tiniest segment of your loving heart,
And a single wave in the ocean of your memory,
For one nostalgic image of our time together.
Please let that image of us,
Carry you through your toughest battles.
I pray it reminds you that there is someone,
Who knows and believes in everything that you are,
And who knows the blinding light of goodness that would seep,
Should your soul be ever wounded by a criticising knife.
Please know that with every drop that rolls from my red eyes,
That I am not angry.
I can never be angry.
Lies would erupt from my mouth if I pretended to be fine,
Should I see your arm clasping another tiny waist,
Should I see that your smile doesn't belong to me anymore,
Should she get to hear your laugh...
Please know that I know,
That we were separated by life's design,
The long road cut between us,
And ensured that we may not survive.
Each piece of me that is breaking,
Is wishing that you can wait until I join you,
But your true source of happiness may lie there,
And it would be selfish of me to want anything else.
