Please Forgive Me Susan Soifer

Confessions Of An Ignorant Teenager
.
There was a girl I went to Highschool with, four years in the same class;
She sat near me in our Home Room, at the time, was not a pretty lass!
My friends and I made fun of her, we labeled her “The Puke”;
We ridiculed her so mercilessly, that we all deserved rebuke!
.
I knew she had a crush on me, for during tests, she’d let me peek;
She was brilliant, and aced them all, while correct answers did “I” seek!
We graduated and a decade later, our ten year reunion was organized;
After not seeing many for so long, I was greeting gals and guys!
.
Susan came there with her husband, now married with some kids;
She had grown into a lovely woman, teardrops fell from my eyelids!
She smiled when she saw me, I went over and gave her a big hug;
We introduced our spouses, then hit the dance floor to “cut a rug”!
.
The class all formed a circle, some danced while others clapped;
Halfway through the music, dear Susan there collapsed!
She came to some moments later, blaming it on dizziness;
Her husband took her home then, all of us quite distressed!
.
What none of us were aware of, was she had a tumor in her brain;
Neurosurgeons from around the world, were unable to it restrain!
She passed away a few months later, to all our great surprise;
“Please Forgive Me Susan Soifer”, you were beautiful beyond reprise!
.
I drown in my shame
For an ignorant young fool
Broke an Angel’s heart

"Make the most of your regrets; never smother your sorrow, but tend and cherish it till it comes to have a separate and integral interest. To regret deeply is to live afresh." Henry David Thoreau
Sometimes regret is a way of keeping a memory alive. So that we don't forget and we do not make the same mistake. Wonderful tribute Larry
My Dear Friend Lost,
I don't know how you do it, but you always come up with the most perfect quotations to compliment my poetry. Then, you addend them with your own quotes of brilliance. I feel so fortunate to have met you, and look forward to a long future of trading words from our souls.
Peace and Love,

My Dear Cherie,
What a beautiful story about this poor kid, who like Susan, was picked on because of his physical appearance. The only difference is, that you befriended him and have nothing to atone for, while I acceded to my buddies Peer Pressure, and contributed to her torment. It is so sad to me, that they both passed so early in life. Were you as fortunate as I was, to see him before he left our world? I still can remember that tenth reunion night as if it were yesterday. I still can see her face, when we first made eye contact, and she smiled at me. I still can feel the tears from my horrible high school transgressions against her, that ripped my heart apart, when again we met ten years later. I still feel the horrible pain, of learning about her passing. Yet, I still feel that on that last night I saw her, being the Angel that she was, she forgave me.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
