Please Go, Children! In Beijing's Northerly Wind
By Ms Yu Xiuhua (余秀華), translated by Yiyan Han (c)
Ms Yu Xiuhua (余秀華) is a poetess with raw talent, well known in China today. She hasn’t got good education as born with cerebral palsy in a poor family [1]. She wrote this Chinese poem, as shown in the image, when Beijing evicted its migrant workers, being called as the “low-end population” by the regime, in winter in 2017 [2].
My first translation was completed, as well as the reading in December 2017. In this post, some minor text changes have been made. The term "high-end" refers to those people who has got money or power or both. For people in the free world who romanticise communism (or the name of socialism), this poem should be a wake-up call, to say the least. 2021-01-09
Leave the sunshine to tomorrow
and let the high-end worship
Leave the happiness to tomorrow
and let the high-end joy
Leave the hope to tomorrow
and let the high-end fulfil their wishes
O please also leave your desperation
to the high-end
and that will be their hopelessness
We have nowhere to go
though in our own home land
We don't have warm clothes
though in our own home land
We have nothing
but a motherland that only exists
in Peking opera
in countless dialects
in office buildings
and in rental places
This country also belongs to those
who issue the notice of evacuation and demolition
break our windows
and commit daylight robberies
O children, please believe me:
We're in the bottom of society
but not the low-end
You haven't entered an elite school
and this isn't low-ended
Even if in rags
you ain't one of the low-end
A low-end is narrow-minded as a low-ender
and a kind person has the tolerance of kind-hearted

Wow... eye operning. Amazing how she has managed to sculpt her life and pave the way through poverty. Very inspiring. But I feel for those that are struggling and it still seems that the government doesn't care... keep writing my friend!
Thanks. We don't luxury of self-pity when the whole world is crazy, and many people are misery. Cheers.
