Poetic Dilemma ..

âYou like to scribble then?
How dâya make it rhyme?
What- it doesnât rhyme sometimes!
Thatâs not proper poems!
Thatâs just writingâŚ..
How dâya make stuff up?
Or is it all real life?
You can write stuff  that youâve not lived then?
Iâd run out of wordsâŚ..â
âYou poets- all pretentious fools..
Like artwork no one understands,
but talk about it knowingly
to not appear uncoolâ
Iâve heard these comments, seen the sneers
but what these people miss,
Is how the words spill from lips to pen
and end up with all thisâŚ
Our lifeblood spilt across a page,
Our thoughts spoken aloud,
To write reality thatâs threaded through
Imagination we expound.
No, not everything I write is something
personal to me.
Some things are really alien
and I hope I never see.
But poets write and write some more,
we see words in our sleep,
and for as long as words will come
I know that I will keep...
On writing words,... creating themes
that maybe strike a chord,
transporting  readers for a while
will be my best reward.

Hi Charlotte, yes I know exactly what you mean- poetry doesn't  really have limitations and as you say sometimes it's rhyming right the way through, other times not  at all or only sporadically but the important thing is, I think, how the piece 'reads' sometimes you need couplets to get the balance and at other times the freedom of freestyle..that's why I guess we love poetry and why I am always trying to encourage people just to try reading poetry aloud and to live the feel of a work- besides adding a little variation is fun isn't it!...Thank for reading it! xxx

Short or long .. the only important thing is the piece gets its message across and that's why poetry is such fun and never boring!! A couplet is just two lines ( like a couple) that rhyme  so you probably are using them lots already  lol!! We all have loads to learn still which is why this site is so good we can all support and help each other and enjoy reading lots of good stuff at the same time! xxx
Hi Lodigiana, what an interesting write### I thought about it too , that poems should rhyme, that it is not a poem if it does not rhyme.. when i first joined Cosmo, i really didn't know what category should i fill in the blank. I only know sonnet, freestyle, and narrative lol. But writing is addictive, you write more and more and more.
I can relate## if everything seems void, i go back to sleep and close my eyes to visualise, then words are coming back again.Â
Thanks for sharing and well done. Congrats on the nomination!!!

Hi Leah, I know just what you mean- once you get writing in your blood it becomes almost a mania and we find words, phrases, ideas and images in so many ordinary things we see and hear.Although I have read lots of different forms of poetry  I am always learning and ready to try change..doesnt always work out so well but love giving it a go! Thank you for taking the time to read my work and comment- I do appreciate it- very much! xx
Lodigiana
lodigiana you are simply brilliant, this reads so well, a pleasure....cheers poet
Hi Christopher, so pleased you enjoyed my ramblings!! Thank you my poetic pal!Â
Lodigiana xx
Hi Dblankportrait, not in agreement in the sense that you don't think poetry is poetry if it doesn't rhyme? Or you don't think poetry should ever rhyme.? I am open to every style I guess,as long as the meaning is clear...or as clear as we poets can sometimes make it...still working on that one  my friend xxxx
