Poem -

Predator

Predator

It tempts you, the thrill,
it has under control, your will,
You're running, running up the hill,
starving for the last kill.

And so you move, up and up,
starting from the very down as a pup,
Running, running until you're close up,
and striking, fighting your very last matchup.

It's in your blood, in your head,
it looms there, like an unspoken threat,
You've never fled,
in the eye of the dead.

And so you fight, for the pride,
taking long steps, long strides,
Never once you cried,
with only will left by your side.

It's the thing left, when all is over,
it gives you hope, like the last clover,
You're not waiting for the takeover,
and never ever climb lower.

And so your moment, it has come,
hearing the cries of war and drum,
You will take down those in the slum,
letting them cry one last time for their mum.

An interesting poem, with a good sense of rhyme.

Favorite Stanza:
It's in your blood, in your head,
it looms there, like an unspoken threat,
You've never fled,
in the eye of the dead.

I can honestly say, I’ve never read a poem quite like this one. When I first read the title, Predator, I assumed it would be about animal predator’s like a hawk or lion. I may need to re-read later for clarification. Some poems are like that. When you read them, you don’t always know about the subject of the poem. The only part I would revise is adding more about the “predator” is it human or animal?

Thank you.
I enjoyed reading your poems.
