the sun sets on everyone

nobody but our pretending friends only know the
depth to which they have to pretend—
to put up a strong front.
they alone can confess the burdens of forced strength,
a weakness in itself they will never tell.
oft, cut yourself some slack
for breaking when you have to mend,
you do not have to always be the strong face—
cry, sometimes, when you need to.
swaddle yourself in your tears;
such catharsis is what the soul yearns for.
and this earth will be the only thing here
when everyone leaves it.
be nice, help lighten the burdens you can carry,
scatter some rays of sunshine.
you only realise how brief your stay here is
when your sun sets at noon.
always hum yourself some songs to sleep
knowing when the night comes,
you, will be found a baby, in her arms.
