Pretty Chicky In A Cage

Pretty Chicky In A Cage

She desired to be
more than your eye candy

Weary of being a lust magnet

All she wanted was respect

The crime of our cosmetic society

So obsessed with surface beauty
we never allowed ourselves to see
the light trapped within the pretty shell
that eventually became her living Hell

Long after the sultry corpse icon
became the stuff of cultural legend
her well chronicled tale of tragedy
is still buried beneath the glossy pics
celebrating an innocent sexuality
that was as fake as her naughty smile

Hey, Steve.
Singer/songwriter/performer Sir Elton John captured these same sentiments in his hit song, "Candle In the Wind" concerning Miss Norma Jean Mortenson which was released in its original version on his 1973 album, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" that same year.
It's sad that our society places so much emphasis on physical, or outward, beauty.
I've dated some gorgeous women who possessed the personalities of a slug. That in and of itself made them appear ugly and quite unpleasant to be around.
Nicely penned, Steve.

Thanks Dean.... I love Candles in the Wind by the great Elton John... I recently saw online some recently discovered pics of Marilyn when she was starting out and it struck me even then she that sad look of melancholy behind those beautiful eyes

I agree, Steve,
Despite her pinup girl, sex symbol status she always appeared very unhappy to me.
Anyhow, you're more than welcome.
