Poem -

Prosperous

Did you want to see me crumble
Weakened like the ruins of ancient buildings
Barely holding onto the foundation beneath me
Did you want to see my shoulder's drapeĀ
Hanging like unused curtainsĀ
Keeping the sunlight from finding it's way inside
Did you want to see my eyes fill with tears
Creating waterfalls down my tender skin
Soaking into the seams of my pillowcase
You may shoot me with your hollow promises
Carve me with your meaningless apologies
Your words may drown me in frigid water
Thinking that if they drip with sweet lies I won't leave you forgotten
You may slaughter me with time wasted
But like iced breath on a winter's chilled day
I will rise higher than the feeling of doubt
That you attempted to etch into my flesh
You cannot break me anymore
Because I will rise from a past rooted in pain
