Quietly Profound

I'm sitting, staring at a tree

Examining leaves of brown and green

And then I'm struck by something white

A single flower, the one with fight

To outlast the others, withered and gone

The petals stand, proud and strong

A piece of beauty, unlike the rest

Able to withstand Nature's test

It gets me thinking of chance and life

Some have ease and some have strife

Some are leaves of sun and green

 And some are sad, brown and unseen

But then there is a jewel unlike the others

Not a product of fathers and mothers

A unique entity, completely its own

From birth to the mind, difference is sewn

This one has a path, winding and unbroken

Over obstacles of chance, where failure has soaked in

But this one will not fail, give up or back down

For this is the purpose this one has found

To persevere, despite the doubts

To find peace, despite what's loud

This one is different, unique and ready

Despite the fact this makes it uneasy

Grateful for the hurt, the challenge, the pain

The life that's been a constant hurricane

Because with every piece and with every scar

These are the things that make you who you are
