A Mind in Darkness
You panic, heart racing and pupils dilated
Take another puff just to keep your thoughts sedated
This urge within you, is threatening to consume you
But you've managed to keep this secret suffocated
To give up now is to plan a new life where
Your name is anonymous and your face is lifeless
Hold on to the last minute of your humanity
As you close your eyes and let that demon free
Maybe to avert my clearly longing gaze
Is to give back the remainder of your stolen days
I always hear of love at first sight
But no one talks of the death in these eyes
My soul recked and my mind lost
Like so many others, my future tossed
Into the mix of maybe and never
I never knew self-destruction could be so clever
To steal what you love, and make you think that's what you want
And then give you the memories as a slow agonizing taunt
.
I recently found this poem among one of my many journals and notebooks. I had written it at a rather young age. I hope you enjoyed this little piece.
