Rhythmic Savior

Rhythmic Savior

The absence of sound is so despairing

Where the beat should play, the drum beyond repairing

As I listen close, waiting for my sign

The absence of it could tell me no lie

So I do the only thing I can and strum that first note

Unable to find a sufficient anecdote

And then a surprise from the heart that died

Keeps me strumming faster

Circumventing disaster

The notes and melodies set that beat free

Beating wildly into a cacophony

It's the music bringing life back

When your impossible debt had already been stacked

As the once still eyes flutter into realization

The familiarity stops any self reservation

Those eyes I avoid, try to keep from judging me

Are set unhindered, taking me in carefully

Avoided in every mirror and shaky distant reflection

Those eyes are my own, the judgement my own election

My heart was dead, the one forever lost

Until music saved me, able to bear my cost
