Ready for the Switch

Beyond the walls you pass unconcerned by
waits a man knowing he's about to die
For a crime committed long ago in youth
barely after losing his last baby tooth
Clutched to his chest, gripped ever so tight
is the Word of God, a single ray of light
That shines even in this darkest of cages
displacing his sorrow with tear damp pages
Crying out in pain to the merciful Lord above
to show once in his life the touch of love
And giving up his spirit just like the Holy Son
he joins Christ our Savior, the perfect one
No more contained in flesh, nerves no longer taught
finally coming home after the long battles fought
There he is not a felon, he is not bother
he is the long lost child of loving Father
