The Reality of Stars

The Reality of Stars

  I thought of stars

And saw a billion floating

 On a tropical night

I inhaled the sight

 Some were shimmering cloud clusters

 Some were fruits of light;

 Ripe and close to me; it seemed

 Then I wondered if they were even real

Could I have dreamt a thing like this?

 Stars shimmering in endless numbers

With no patterns, that I perceived,

  I even tried to count them

  But found no place to begin

So I decided just to watch for a while;

 how I liked the way they made me feel

  such pretty things to look upon,
