Reflections

Reflections

All the things you hate
Won’t look back at you
Failures from the past
Breathing all over you

Left behind
Left out to dry
Could have cried
Can’t say I tried
I simply died

A walking corpse catastrophe
Bringing out the good in me
Telling me I’ll conquer
Not one of my enemies

How dare you look back at me
You held me back a lifetime
You left me back in flames
A storm of hate and names
Screaming and bound in chains

Break away
Don’t stay away
Return me to the alter
Remind me where I faltered
I can’t look up
Can’t hold my bread
Demons are sleeping
Just under my bed

Tell me again
I’m to blame
I’ve always known it
Anyway, thanks
I can’t look back
While you look at me
All I see is terror
From inside the mirror

Who are you
Who am I
Don’t recognize
I’ve realized
It’s me
vandalized
You’re not the person
You thought you’d be
Did you think you’d be
The person you are
Always face to face
With this disgrace

Is such love such a curse?
Ironic it hurts so much.
It evades, yet awaits.
