REFLECTIONS

My first visit to ManhattanÂ
Some time in nineteen seventy sevenÂ
Coming from a third world countryÂ
Where people and animals share the streetsÂ
Poverty rains many massages the streetsÂ
With their bare feetÂ
In ManhattanÂ
I saw the city lightsÂ
The busy streetsÂ
Displays of suits I can only wearÂ
With my eyesÂ
So overpriced it makes a poor man sigh
Buildings so tallÂ
I felt ants smallÂ
Leaning back trying to count the flightsÂ
Even the stars in the nights sky
Was hidden by the florescence lightsÂ
That shined so brightÂ
Then to my surpriseÂ
Naked pictures caught my eyesÂ
Decorating store frontÂ
I never knew freedom could be so bluntÂ
With my mouth wide openÂ
And eyes transfixedÂ
My mind could not conceivedÂ
This realityÂ
And there it beganÂ
My life in AmericaÂ
My new home in this strange land..
