Remember When......

Remember When......

I know that when you open this,
you'll realise your card's amiss,
I'll tell the truth.....I didn't buy
As we both know, I cannot lie......
Except, of course, when I was young
and lies tripped easy from my tongue,
as I gazed up with eyes so wide,
I watched you falter, then surmise,
that no-one could be so sincere,
if they weren't truly in the clear!
But though your trust in me was true,
something must have niggled you,
and made you place that glassy eye
to watch on me and be your spy....
Nowadays I NEVER fib.....
On my honour! Dib, dib, dib!
In truth, it wasn't only me.
I had some help from dear aunt Dee.....
She found me weaving down the path,
so drunk, she couldn't help but laugh!
Then rescued me in nick of time,
force feeding me till I was fine.
As I left, I offered thanks.
She'd spared me one of mummy's spanks!
Even further back in time
A special memory is mine......
The basket that you carried round
was set before me on the ground,
you said to put my hand inside,
to see if I could then decide
just what could be so warm and soft......
...I think of Gert and Daisy oft.
I loved our epic Sunday nights.
Slavery and holy fights!
The news, halfway, a welcome break,
so eggs and bacon, you could make.
Christmas day we donned long frocks,
those pictures still cause aftershocks!
Always in the same old chair,
pressies scattered everywhere,
Instamatic at the ready,
Babycham that made me heady.
Easter left me quite confused,
no giant egg....but hmmmmmm....new shoes???
Filled right up with yummy treats.
A gift for me and for my feets.
Now and then we'd sing a song,
or throw some darts, or play ping pong.
Just me and you, nobody else...
No bawdy Irish, Scots or Welsh!
I know we've left these things behind,
but still they live within my mind.
The memories you gave to me
make me so glad you're MY mummy!

This is my poem I emailed to my mum for Mother's day.......The slavery and holy war refers to Roots and Jesus of Nazareth, blockbusters than ran over two nights. Gert and Daisy were kittens and the spy was a teddy bear's eye on the mantle piece, that my mum told told me she could see through when she was out the room lol. It's a wonder I turned out normal.....ish.
