Remembering Steve

Remembering Steve

At Bally’s, thirty years ago, I had a workout pal named Steve;
Who told me on Wednesday morning, the next day he was set to leave!
He was flying his own small airplane, his good friend was going with him;
They had decided to go to The Daytona 500, yesterday, on a whim!
.
We were sitting in the sauna, after a vigorous workout;
I told him “Have a great time”, he said “Of that there is no doubt”!
But Friday evening as I watched the late news, I could not believe my ears;
His plane had crashed that morning, no survivors, I burst in tears!
.
For just two days before this, he was sitting by my side;
Now never would I see him again, my friend had gone and died!
On Tuesday, many went to his funeral, all his “homies” from the spa;
We hugged and said some prayers for him, that he’d found his Shangri-La!
.
.
                                      One can never know
                             When a dear friend will depart
                                      Live each day fully

My Dear Leah,

Yes, thirty years ago, I lost a good friend, but God has been kind to me, and sent several others on Cosmo.

All my love,

Life is so unpredictable and fragile, Larry.
One minute we're here, and the next--POOF!--gone with the wind.
All we can try to do while we are here is leave behind a lasting legacy of love and friendship.
That's one of the primary reasons writers do what they do. If we're fortune enough t for our work to find its way into print, we become immortal, in a sense.
In the end, it isn't the quantity of friends you have but the quality that truly matters.
Well penned--very touching.

Dear Dean,

When Steve passed away, I was in my early forties, and more resilient.  But, at this stage of my life, I am starting to lose dear friends at an alarming rate.  The loss of my precious friend Otto, a few weeks ago, devastated me.  Coupled with the eternal tears for my Soulmates Nico and Cody, I face challenges that I never thought about just ten years ago.  As you say, "Life is so unpredictable and fragile, Larry."
My "quantity" of "quality" friends is dwindling quickly.

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

Dear Greg,

Sorry for the late response, but we were gone for six days, and are just getting around to answering comments.  We're glad this poem inspired you to write one of your own.  Larry will read it tonight, and we will post his comment tomorrow.
