Rose Bush

What is the world without color?
What are mothers without daughters?
What is light without the sun?
What are bullets without the gun?
Some things I do not understand
Like why we have legs and hands
My hard heart has gotten soft
‘Cause they cut the roses off
I know the weather is getting cold
‘Cause my teardrops turned to snow
My footsteps are getting heavy
Days like these, I’m never ready
I wake up with pins in my eyes
And at night, I’m lying on spikes
No blood draws from this moth
‘Cause they cut the roses off
I get the winter has something to give
But they could have let the roses live
Everything has to be eliminated
So things can be reanimated
But the flower was so unique
It was anything other than weak
I don’t know what to do now
‘Cause they cut the roses down
What is heat without the summer?
What is one without the other?
What is blood without the skin?
What is out if there is no in?
Some things I do not understand
Like a woman’s need for a man
I think my heart is getting soft
‘Cause they cut the rose off
