Poem -

A runaway. I am not forgotten

A runaway. I am not forgotten

A civilized city

Captured in the dark

Sold to beast only to work on the crop.

Where do I go? Where do I run?

I say no,no,no

But only to be beaten violently without heart.

No, no, no I am a runaway…

I am loyal not to man, but to bear, my master.

I obey

Never to play

So I have a stay in the thoughts of a beast…

The one I call my master.

No,no,no I am a runaway…

I see the light

I see the sunshine

Shine bright, to freedom

No, I can’t

But I must

Where am I?

Have the gods wished me to die?

I work

I clean

I die

But only to be left to cry.

I cry

I cry

I cry

I cry

I go

I run

I think

I cry

But my tears mean nothing.

Nothing

To my master I am a slave..

To my children I am a mother..

To my husband I am a wife..

To myself I am brave…..
