RUTH ELLIS

RUTH ELLIS

It's time I was heading to the gallows today
I will have to face my punishment coming my way
" A life for a life" that's what the judge said
In two hours time I would finish up dead

The death to penalty to some is a hideous thing
Ending a human life and the anguish that will bring
My name is Ruth Ellis and the year is 1955
I'm going to be hung whilst still being alive

Shooting my lover down felt justified and right
I will never forget that chilly April night
So it's time to face up to my fate
My legacy will live on for others to debate
