Sailing Deep Purple

Sailing Deep Purple

The open sea moves in black midnight

star light and moon beam drift

beside this lonely ship

Wind whispers promises cold on the skin

somewhere in the murky depths
I could almost hear the mermaids singing

only one way roads in that watery salvation

that even one twitch will take you down

to those mermaids' blood shot eyes

like phantom whores
they look to the surface

smelling the blood of desperation

floating just above the waves

if I should die here tonight

Who would find me so far from home

or who would even want to look

For just another lost soul?

only the shadows of my shallow thoughts

would be left as a beacon

All to do is drink away another memory

moving quickly to the distance

still lingering, cold  on my lips

thanks again sis.  I was on a cruise a few years ago, and the sight of the ocean is fascinating and scary as well, it makes a person feel very 'small' in comparison....cheers

Barry thank you very much, and yes I'm 'brilliant' lol; kidding man, trust me the moment that I believe I'm brilliant, I'll stop 'getting' poetry to write down, the mind must be free of 'self', this is a weird genre; few have any real 'control' of what they write ( I don't anyway) lol, it is very humbling at times for me to accept this, but I'm getting a little better everyday, it's a process....glad you commented me mate, have great evening

Thanks again Flower, I love the ocean as well; I'm from the tropics so I don't have much of a choice, yeah and my grandfather was a sailor as well, it's in my DNA; there is nothing like the sea, especially around sunset....ttyl

hey T! wow what a nice thing to say, and I honestly didn't know F Scott Fitzgerald wrote poetry (or prose that sounds like poetry, lol) read Great Gatsby a few times; short book, but interesting, though that expression 'old sport' used in the book  began ringing in my ears after a while  ...no need to apologize for not keeping up with my stuff, I haven't posted much recently, been busy....hey I thought you were upset with me man, I wrote a long comment on your 'street magician' poem, and you never responded;  not sure what I may have said in the 'comment' but if I did offend it was not intentional, just saying....appreciate the kind words my friend, glad you like the poem....have a good day

Christopher this is a stunning write, loved it especially the line

"to those mermaids' blood shot eyes

looking to the surface

like phantom whores"

I found those lines very amusing.
Great stuff brother.
