Sat A Vicar

This particular night, I did dream
Of a palace and its tower's sway,
Unseen, yet within the All of me
Amid a gala, where Mozart's music played
Sat a vicar, with a reddish gaze...
The dream trampled, derided, hated churches
Yet this palace was adorned, with a most holy array
With all its guests gossiping and whispering worship
A feeling of despotism, coyly, conveyed
Sat a vicar, with a reddish gaze...
Four masked guards, in the palace tower
Three British dancers performed ballet
Two Grandfather Clocks, faced the hour
One got the feeling, the dream was staged
Sat a vicar, with a reddish gaze...
I hate myself, from my knees I prayed
In a searing sweat, I did awake
I reached a towel to dry my face
In the corner, on my chair of leather and lace
Sat a vicar,
With
A lonely face...
Tony Taylor

My beautiful brother, maybe the Vicar feels he has failed, but you don't have to worry for him, he will find his way, just as you have. Brilliant write T, enjoyed very much :-)

Thanx FEATHERS!!......I had a "feeling" that you would find something interesting in this one!!....... know what I mean!?....... appreciate it sister girl!!....... ttyl........T xo. ?☀✴✳
Vicarius Filii Dei - or Vicar of the Son of God; it's one of the titles for the Pope, the word 'Vicar' is not that common (at least not to me, lol) in my circles it's always associated with the Pope....each section of this write is the unfolding of an uncomfortable truth; I have a theory but will not disclose, lol...Cherie spoke in her comment about 'The church is portrayed as a dictatorship of control and gossip...not of real spiritual substance...' and she said it better than I could....the last part is the most disturbing part of the poem, at least to me, and the meaning of it would only be a guess....dude! the 'children' will never 'get' this one, I suspect....you're much much more than a poet capable of flowery yet original language and the best of intentions, you are one deep "Mamma Jamma" and in the words of one of my favorite NBA broadcasters; 'mamma there goes that man!!' A lovely poetic rose, Mr. Taylor...loved it
Wow Thanx CHRIS!!.... ya know?..... sometimes I have to hold off for a day or two to reply to your comments..... because you, like Cherie, are exceptional at comprehension & its attributes.......l was an altar boy and planned to be a priest in my youth...... when corruption and ugliness within the church reared its head....... I've always believed in God but no longer believe in organized religion in its present form and façade....... but like all things .......time and its passing teaches those who seek the truth of the possibility of the core of All faiths recognition of those lessons learned....... and with that ......the re-awakening of that which is already within us all.......... the power of the human spirit ........and that spirit is connected to ALL things......... we are all seeking our creator..... whether that be a conscious effort or not is up to the individual and their personal belief system........ that final stanza IS disturbing indeed my friend..... and I thank you for recognizing its contribution to the poem and its intent!!...... We are born....... we live..... then we die!!....... ultimately, it's how we face our death that matters..... because we are accountable for our actions....... just ask the pope!! (smiles)........ you're a great spirit my friend....... as are we all.......a bit lonely...... but when you consider Love within the equation its a decent trade off...... Sat a Vicar!!...... Love to you and yours bro!!.......T xo. ?☀✴✳

Hi Tony Wow what a dream I don t know why

YES!! Thanx DEBS!!......I can see why you would think that...... it WAS part of my intent to convey the corruption found in the large religions...... which the Da Vinci code does so well!!...... so cool that your mind took you there...... you should always trust those instincts of yours.... they are always on target!!........ high fives....thanx for taking time with this one!!....... your friend and admirer!!.......T xo. ?☀✴✳
Hi Tony
Thanks for sharing with us!
Nothing is what it seems.
My mother sued the Roman Catholic Church represented by the archbishop in our village involving a piece of land ( long and complicated lawsuit), Fortunately, she won, we won!
It affected our attitude towards the church. This experience keeps appearing in my dream. I was only 5 years old then when it all started.
A battle she fought till she passed away in 1997. She changed her religion.
Well written!

Wow! Thanx so much LEAH!! ((Fir)?........I appreciate your sharing this story my friend......I grew up in the Roman Catholic church myself...... and it was a terrible let down to me as a 13 year old boy (long story)....... If only I could share my dreams with you...... you would begin to understand my 40 year long search for God...... in many, many, ways...... we seem to have much on common....... and I do so appreciate your positive ink sweet poetess!!.......thanx again!!........LOVE and ROCKETS!!........T xl. ?☀✴✳

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
This beautiful man, so indoctrinated as a youth, so impregnated with the mores of a then corrupt church. Even in his adulthood, recriminations haunt him, as the Vicar of vicissitudes is ever present in his dreams. But hopefully, where this Vicar now sits, stands a man beyond his influence.
Peace, Love and Rockets,
Larry xxx
Thanx Dear Poet Brother LARRY!!
