Sat A Vicar...

OnΒ an enigmatic night, I did dream
Of a gilded palace and its towering sway
I am unseen, but have a strong sense of me
Amid a gala, where Mozart's music did play
Sat a vicar, with a reddish gaze
------------------------------------------------
The dream trampled, ominous, as hated churches
Yet this palace was adorned, with a most holy array
With all its guests gossiping and whispering worship
The feeling of despotism, coyly, conveyed
Sat a vicar, alone, with a reddish gaze
------------------------------------------------
Four masked guards, in the palace tower
Three British dancers performed ballet
Two Grandfather Clocks, toasted the hour
One got the feeling, this dream was staged
Sat a vicar, with a reddish gaze
------------------------------------------------
I hate myself, from my knees I prayed
In a searing sweat, I did awake
I reached a towel to dry my face
In the corner, on my chair, of leather and lace
Sat a vicar
I recalled,
From another time,
Another place...

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
The Vicar of Vain Vanity, sat high upon a chair;
Below his Congregation knelt and prayed, avoiding his harsh stare!
The accoutrements were the finest known, paid for with their ill afforded tithes;
But the Vicar dined daily in pure luxury, while many people starved at night!
Love,
