The Sea

The wind softly whispered swirling encouragement
The sun patted me warmly on the shoulder
The grass beneath my feet wriggled impulsively
Pushing up between my toes and around my sole
Trying to make me laugh

A cloud danced haphazardly across the sky
Waving crazily to get my attention
A swallow darted, twisted and turned
An aerobatic display against an azure background
While an ant struggled across a patch of dirt
Labouring with its great prize, a caterpillar
Much too busy to be concerned with an ill-placed foot

From the top of the headland I gazed
And there it was as it had been for so long
The sea, white capped and so dominant
Beating waves against the shore in frustration
Wanting to roll on forever into infinity
