Poem -

Self Abandonment

I am alone; I am always alone.

The long-lost friend...the one who got away.
Burnt bridges?  I stole the lighter.
I am a quitter...a cowardly hider.

Year by year, I've erected these walls,
layer by layer, sealing my own tomb.
Blinding darkness the blinder to my doom.

I hope to hit rock bottom soon.

I can't imagine there being a basement,
but if I find myself there, I'll need my own room.
