Senses

I lay in bed next to you
Listening to you breath
It reminds me of the wind
Running through the trees
I think of how beautiful
It must be in your dreams
I stare at you and wonder
What it is you see
When a beautiful soul like yours
Collides with the train wreck that is me
I place my hand upon your chest
And let my fingers feel your beat
Your hearts the rhythm to my lyric
And my lips can't help but sing
I wish for a second you'd open your eyes
But you seem so at peace
They're astonishing and every time I look
I see rain on thirsty leaves
I lean over and kiss your lips
There is no other taste so sweet
scents of your hair when I kiss your head
Could bring me to my knees
Much like the smell of flowers in bloom
Flowing in the cool spring breeze
Now you've enveloped my every sense
And all while you are asleep.
Every piece of me was made for you
And my heart you shall keep

The simple rhyme-scheme loosely binds the poem together...giving the whole thing a song-like quality.
The nature-based imagery creates a universally recognisable palette from which to draw the very specific scenario of someone observing and contemplating her sleeping lover.
Beautiful...
