She Cut My Heart In Two

A few days ago I visited, my parents first neighborhood;
Where we moved from Philadelphia, so my father’s business could do good!
Dayton Ohio, was our new home, in a large apartment house;
I gazed upon our old building, such memories it roused!

I remembered my lovely neighbor, Terry Newburg was her name;
With two long braids of three feet, a most magnificent mane!
We frolicked together often, through the second and third grade;
She was this writer’s first heart throb, with her braids I often played!

Late one Summer, before school started, her family took a trip;
She was gone for over one week, such a pout upon my lips!
Finally, then the day came, when I knew they would return;
I woke up early in the morning, my stomach began to churn!

At noon, I saw their car parked, so I knocked on their front door;
When she opened it my mouth dropped, my heart so quickly tore!
Her long braids had been chopped off, she now sported a poodle do;
My girlfriend had betrayed me, I had lost my first love true!

Beautiful braids gone
She cut our love life so short
I wept many days
