SHOE SHINERS

Whatever happened to New York's shoe shiners ?
Disappeared forever just like British miners
For only ten cents your shoes would really glow
Only took a few minutes which I'm sure you know

Shoe shiners would appear and pop up everywhere
From Madison Square Garden to busy Times Square
A bit of polish, some rag and a strong brush
Queues formed very early to avoid the crush

Like most things shoe shiners are part of the past
Assigned to history and just too good to last
I guess it's a question of supply and demand
To clean shoes now is done by one's own hand
