Pondering

I could love you
but the past wears you as a grin
you carry a hangman’s rope holding my casket within
those lanes are waves where memory cannot swim
i would love tomorrow but yesterday would win. It’s youthful decree.
painted clouds the prettiest chains I’ve seen
dangling singers screaming for sin
Now the earth is cold and your smile the tomb
better to leave me than claw at these words for granite and marble a cloak you hide
and I would love you if time was spring
