Poem -

Silence

I see the world through quiet fingers,

I see the earth through silent hands,

I see everything,

Hope and doubt,

Emotion, success, and failure,

But I hear none of it.

It has been this way for many years,

Ten thousand years in truth,

I press against what holds me in,

And hope to hear again.

I remember sound,

High and low,

Happiness, sadness,

But it was taken away.

I long for sound but know,

If I were freed,

If I took heed,

I would long for the silence again.

The silence of snow,

Beauty come to earth

Yet I would always long again,

To hear the rushing of the wind,

The trickling of a brook.

Always I am denied,

The quiet fingers hold me,

And now I know to be content,

In the silent hands around me.
