Silence

Silence,
Do you hear that?
The little twinkle of chimes and the whirling of a fan,
That all stops at a certain time when even the wind has long given up it's endless efforts.
Silence,
Where everything seems to stop in the real world,
But start in their minds,
A time where thinking becomes louder than the troubles of the day,
And a troubled mind wants to play.
Silence,
You hear it now?
Silence is peace,
We all know that's a lie.
If silence were peace then why,
In the middle of the night when all is calm and silent,
Do you people cry?
Silence,
You must hear it now!
You must hear the first tear falling onto to the ground from someone who is drowning in the silence!
Can you not hear through all this silence the damage that is done?
Silence,
But that's the thing,
Isn't it always when there is too much silence,
And not enough sound

Very well written and amazing topic!
We all need some silence everyday.
Five minutes per day are great (but twenty will be terrific!).
Great job Brooke Knapp!
True true. Some alone time to think is sometimes needed
Maybe you are right. Maybe silence eats at us more than we realize. Maybe we need the sound of at least one person to realize we exist. Brilliant write
Yes. You understood what I meant perfectly. Thank you!
Being an urban teacher for over 15 years now, I love silence so much more. I use to have to keep busy, or keep the radio on or the television on.....and now, I am happy with quiet....being with my thoughts and feelings which I use to dread. Ironically, Simon and Garfunkel's song, The Sound of Silence is when the pop rock of the 1950's and early 1960's began write lyrics with deeper meaning. Nice piece.
