Poem -

Silent Conversations

I can see all those secrets that you carry.
The pain that's in your eyes says so much,
Though you stand here in silence.

I had hoped for so much more,
That you would be greater than you could imagine,
10 foot tall and unbreakable.

Yet here we are, disappointed, but barely surprised.
The bitter failures of yesterday numb the expectations of tomorrow,
It's become a success simply to exist.

The measuring stick set by no one else,
These failures to measure up belong to you alone,
But those shoulders carry the weight of the world.

The conversations we have never really change.
The questions remain the same,
And the answers seem to stay.

Confused by your commitment to yourself,
We stand face to face again,
Another day talking to the man in the mirror.Β
