Silent Epitaph

Silent Epitaph

In the morning light, an old man died

and no one cried.

It was the last light that the old man saw.

He closed his eyes and saw the day no more.

his house was broken where his bed did lie.

Weathered wood that once was filled with pride,

no one came, he surely died alone.

In what was once  his family’s home.

Now no one cared, he surely died alone.

Morning tide, please take away this heartbreak

that I cannot hide.

Wash away the tears In these eyes of mine

Let someone care, make his memory shine.

No one wanted the things he left behind.

An old table lay broken in the yard outside.

There was a message carved on the underside.

It had heard all his children’s, every joyful laugh

It now became the old man’s epitaph.
