Poem -

Silent Fathers

My society suffers from a deadly syndrome.
A disease called
Silent Fathers.
Symptoms are harsh
and bitter to swallow.

The man who has so many unanswered questions,
yet refuse to question
The kind of man,
that sweeps dirt under the carpet,
too proud to spring clean his house,
someone else will pick up after him

Fathers that see,
His children spiraling out of control
yet does not see at all,
The man who gets up early,
to escape the noise
and the smell of sadness lingering in his home.

The Dad,
that fails to display compassion towards his children,
No hugs,
No encouraging word
or reprimanding where there is a need.

My society,
Produced no backbone men,
The kind that sit in  pubs,
indulging in toxins
which would ultimately damage vital organs
and leave children fatherless
Engaging in seductive conversations
with a girl,
young enough to be his daughter
The kind that finds comfort on cyberspace,
trying to fill a void his dad left
The kind that would pay for clothes and shoes,
just to keep his daughter from asking too many questions,
The man who failed to teach his baby girl
that her value and worth
are not measured by a price tag
or how many boys she can phase by her appearance,
but rather by how she carries herself
Portraying confidence in who she is
What she believes in
The man who shouts at his son,
commanding him to grow up and be a man,
yet all the boy does,
is follow his father's footsteps,
Footsteps that paints a story so colorful,
Be seen not heard,
Show no emotion,
believing that the essence of a man lies in his masculinity,
how hard he can punch,
how many skirts he can lift
and how many deaf and blind
kids he can conceive
and not take responsibility for

Silent fathers
Are seen not heard
Sadly that is what my society made to be true.

Men you have the cure,
Locked up in yourself
A single phrase,
Is the key to my sisters education,
'Baby girl we need to talk'
By doing that,
My brother unlocks his potential,
to lead his peers into a brighter future.
Break the Silent Father Syndrome
With a loud comeback,
Be the roaring lion
Speaking with authority
Demanding respect
Mending broken hearts and homes

That will be the end of
Confused children
The end of
Silent Fathers.
