Silver and Gold

Silver and Gold
By George Katkus

A Silver Knight ran north at three
When he came across a great oak tree
So he rested in its shade
In his sheath was a silver blade
Sleep took him under the great thing
But in his dream he heard a beautiful voice sing
So he awoke, but the voice was no more
Then a branch of the oak he tore
For a fire he wanted to make
From the cold, and darkness did his body shake

Then he made his fire, and it was red
He reached for his bag to grab some bread
Looking up just then he saw a Golden Knight
The sight nearly killed him with fright
The Golden Knight drew a golden sword
This Golden Knight was dressed like a lord
The Silver Knight drew his sword as well
Who the Golden Knight was, he could not tell
They exchanged blows for several hours
In a land that had no flowers

"Stop," said the Silver Knight, " and let me be.
You cannot win, why don't you see?"
The Golden Knight told him," I heard you're the best,
but I've trained long, and this is my first test."
The Silver Knight said, " I'm unbeaten thus far,
you can't achieve your goal, you can't reach this bar."
The Golden Knight told him," your eyes cannot see
That beating you like this is my destiny."
From setting sun to setting sun they fought
To have victory over the other, each knight sought

Then the Silver Knight begun his attack
And the Golden Knight was pushed far back
The Golden Knight did his best to defend
But he still thought it was his end
The Silver Knight kept up his rush
This Golden Knight he intended to crush
The Golden Knight was pushed back to the oak
But his resolve had not yet broke
The Silver Knight did not have a purpose
But it seemed like he did on the surface

The Silver Knight made just one mistake
He thought the Golden Knight was a fake
When he realized this, the Golden Knight ducked and jabbed
The Silver Knight was surprised, his heart had been stabbed
The Silver Knight was until then, the best
But facing that Golden Knight was his final test
So will you be the Silver Knight, or will you be the Gold?
One of them was arrogant, but the other one was bold
