Since When

Since when did we become a broken nation?
Since when are bombs more important than my education?
Since when can we pay for war yet we can’t feed the poor?
Since when does more people being armed equal less harm?

Since when does progress equate to regress?
Since when is carrying a gun more important that the life of a loved one?
Since when is a wall more important than freedom for us all?
Since when it your right to shove a book at me more important that my right to love anybody?

Since when does yes equal no,
Or did you just say so?
Since when does a male politician 
who has never once had to struggle,
Get to decide the outcome of a female trouble?
Since when do we have to say me too to be heard by you?

Since when does democracy equal dictatorship?
Since when did we turn away immigration after their long trip?
Since when are citizens bargaining chips to be swayed rather that served?

Since when do these hold true for you?
Because none of these ideas are new.
I hope one day we can say,
This is no longer true
And maybe that will start with you.
