Sinking Shoe

Sinking Shoe

Bouncing back, you let me live,
returning to ground where he did wait.
A loss of a shoe, but not my soul,
no, my soul, is refreshed,
refreshed enough for me to live again.
Exhilaration, the reason for return,
hanging by a thread, he gasps,
as my footprint has gone.
Though his smile wide from me
ricocheting between bridge and water.
Not all of me returned,
a shoe gone, but a lifetime gained.
We stand together in our achievement,
smiling and a laugh,
mourning a literal footprint.
